OUR HISTORY

Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) was established in 1990. This was the third faculty Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) established. Like the university, the faculty was set to provide unique distinguished training in Management and Business Sciences for the needs of Anglophone Africa.

VISION

Aspiring to be the premier Faculty of IUIU, advancing training in beneficial knowledge in Management and Business Sciences through Innovation and Research to serve the Nation and Ummah.

MISSION

To serve as a Regional Centre of Excellence in Business and Management Sciences.

DEPARTMENTS

The faculty started with two departments. Department of Business Studies that offers programs in business field. The other is the Department of Public Administration that provides courses in the field of public administration. As the Faculty developed along the way, it established department of Islamic Banking and Finance. The first two departments are based at the main campus, Mbale. While the other is based at the Kampala Campus, Kabuli.

Brief Analysis of Faculty Growth and Development

The Faculty has grown in a number of dimensions over time. First, the students enrolment has continues to grow though as of now it is experiencing downward trend. Secondly, academic programs have also grown over the years. The Faculty now has fifteen (15) programs. These programs are offered in different levels, ranging from certificates, diploma, bachelor’s, post graduate diplomas, master’s and PhD. Thirdly, the faculty has also grown in terms of staff both academic and support staff.

  • c. Stiff Competition in Higher Education Industry in Uganda and the region (1988 two universities, 40+ universities now)
  • d. Globalization and regionalization of the economies in the Anglophone region – target market base
OUR WEAKNESSES
  • 1. Inadequate facilities e.g. office Space, classrooms, specialized library or resource Centre
  • 2. Inadequate HRs
  • 3. Weak internet Connectivity
  • 4. Lack of research initiative/s
  • 5. Lack of Marketing Strategy
  • 6. Internally resigned staff due to inadequate remuneration
  • 7. Relatively low level of Qualification of staff

In 1995, the Faculty opened up with one academic program – Bachelor of Science Education. But today, it has a number of programs ranging from Certificate to Masters level.
