Faculty of Arts and Saocial Sciences

It is with much pleasure that I welcome you to the Faculty of Social Sciences. This is a Faculty that has been gradually but surely growing. We offer both undergraduate, postgraduate programmes leading to the award of undergraduate degrees, Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, and the faculty is in the process of starting Ph.D. degrees in all of our Departments. The Faculty also offers a remedial programme which is a pre-university course that prepare students from countries with No Advanced Certificate of Education. This is a one-year programme for candidates whose Primary and Secondary Education is based on the twelve-year system.

This Faculty was established in 1995 just seven years after Islamic University in Uganda had been established with three undergraduate degree programmes i.e. Bachelor of Social Sciences Combined (BSS), Bachelor of Arts Combined (BA) and B.Sc. Mass Communication. The Faculty has since introduced many other programmes and these programmes provide tremendous opportunity for career advancement and development.

The mission of the faculty is to extend the frontier of knowledge through its taught programmes and research. More information regarding our undergraduate and postgraduate studies can be found in our faculty Handbook. It contains detailed information on the various course structures on different programmes offered in different departments in the Faculty. These departments include Department of Political Science, Geography, Economics and Development Studies, History, Languages, Literature and Linguistics, Mass Communication and Social Work and Social Administration.
