The Rector of the Islamic University in Uganda, Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda is participating in the 1st International meeting on capacity building in Science and Science Diplomacy at the International University of Rabat, Morocco.

The meeting that has attracted Rectors and dignitaries from OIC member countries shall discuss how to enhance Science, technology, and Innovation amongst the OIC member countries.

According to Prof. Gyangenda, there is a need for academic institutions to re-orient themselves to enable them to set the new trend in STI.

“The Islamic University in Uganda will start with ICT because we are already strong in that area, as we start building capacity in other STI areas,” the Rector explained.

He, however, cautioned academic institutions not to forget humanities, adding that humanities play a significant role in nourishing the soul.

Earlier this year, the IUIU was identified as the OIC regional hub for STIs.
