MOHAMUD ALI MUHAMUD ELECTED IUIU’s GUILD PRESIDENT

Mohamud Ali Muhamud Abudalle, a Second-year student of Statics has won the hotly contested Guild elections of Islamic University in Uganda Main campus Mbale.

Mr.Ali beat his close challenger Awufu Ratibu, a law student with a margin of only 30 votes. He garnered 765 votes against Ratibu’s 735 and Mulindwa Muhammad who came third got 548 votes.

Nabilah Muhammed Said was elected Lady vice with 560 votes against her rival Nakiganda Asimah who only collected 360.For the Sports minister position, Manje Ally scooped 1244 votes while his rival Munabi Jamilu only got 766 votes.

The chairman Electoral commission Mr. Manana Vinikhet while announcing the final results at the science Lab Square on Saturday evening revealed that out of 4457 registered voters,2065 turned up.

“The voter turn up was fair compared to previous years and most importantly the election was free and fair, we had no cases of irregularities and I want to thank the electoral team, the Interim Government, the ICT officials and the student fraternity for their cooperation” said Vinikhet.

He called upon the other candidates to accept the defeat and show willingness to work with the elect.

Dr. Kabali Sulait, the University’s Dean of Students while giving his general comments on the concluded elections called upon the victors to unite all students regardless of who they supported.

“To all the leaders that emerged victorious, you must unite the students including those that did not support you. you convinced them during the Presidential debate and they have put trust in you so it’s a high time you walked the talk” Dr. Kabali stated.

Mohamud Ali who expressed gratitude upon the trust put in him by his fellow students over his opponents promised to do his best as the  student's leader.

"I will welcome any idea from any person as long as it is for the good of our noble University and I know that with your support,we shall make IUIU  a better place for both Learning and socialization" Ali added.

He is now expected to form his Executive members, cabinet and state ministers who will together be sworn in later next week after Faculty and Hall representatives have also been elected.
