UCDA Donates Espresso Machine and Grinder To IUIU

Uganda coffee development authority has donated an espresso machine and grinder to Islamic University in Uganda.

The team from UCDA was received by the vice-rector in charge of academics, Dr Jamil Serwanga, the academic registrar Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar, and the university secretary Mr Sewankmbo Hamza on behalf of the Rector at the main campus, Mbale.

The quality assurance manager of UCDA Mr Nason Bisathu said the move is to promote the domestic consumption of coffee in Uganda. ‘’ we want students to embrace the culture of drinking coffee in Uganda and we believe this will greatly help in the development of the coffee sector in Uganda’’

Students at the Islamic university in Uganda were trained on how to operate the machine and produce a variety of coffee recipes like espresso, and cappuccino.

The academic registrar of IUIU Dr Halima Wakabi commended UCDA for having chosen IUIU to be part of the initiative to develop the coffee sector.

Mr Sewankambo Hamza the university secretary proposed that IUIU collaborates with UCDA to research and increase the domestic consumption of coffee and also clear the fears associated with it.

While handing over the machine to the university, Mr Nason appreciated the zeal of the staff at IUIU. He encouraged the students to engage themselves fully in the use of the machine donated.

In his closing remarks, Dr Jamil said that through the systems and structures of the university, IUIU would work together with UCDA to promote the domestic consumption of coffee at IUIU at all campuses. ‘’ on behalf of the rector and IUIU at large we appreciate you for the generosity and as we consume coffee, we shall encourage people to pick up the culture’’.
