IUIU Rector Encourages Kindness, and Sharing During Ramadan

The Rector, Islamic University in Uganda Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda has urged Muslims to remain kind even after the end of Ramadan. Prof Ismail said this during the rectors' iftar dinner which took place on Thursday 13th April 2023 at the main campus in Mbale.

The vice-rector in charge of finance Prof. Abdul Kaziba Mpata commended the rector for organizing the occasion to enable the IUIU community to break their fast and prayed that Allah gives everyone the courage to implement gods favour in the world.

Among the guests were members of staff and community leaders, the district kadhi of Sironko and Bugisu, Sheikh Abdul Hakim Mugoya & Sheikh Isa Ahmed Masaba, the mayor of Mbale city, and the chief guest the supreme mufti represented by regional deputy mufti Sheikh Ahmed Wandega.

In his speech, prof. Ismail thanked the guests for honouring the invitation to attend the dinner, and reminded them that Ramadan is a time to charge up spiritual batteries. ‘’ after Ramadan, let us move forward, be kind to one another, and continue sharing as we have been doing the fasting period’’.

The Rector also highlighted the progress of IUIU and thanked the government and the President of Uganda Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for liberalizing education and the people of Bugisu who have lived in harmony with IUIU for the last 34 years. ‘’ IUIU has already invited companies interested in the construction of the faculty of engineering to submit their bids for the contract. Very soon Insha Allah the construction will start’’. He added. 

The Regional Deputy Supreme Mufti Sheikh Ahmed Wandega delivered the message from the supreme mufti and urged the guests to fight against homosexuality.  ‘’ take your children to schools that won’t make you regret.’’ Sheik Ahamed also added that IUIU is a model institution that nurtures both the mind and soul through religion and should be a priority of choice for every child’s education.

‘’I want to thank the academic registrar, Dr Halima Wakabi for mentoring, guiding, and advising the female students who have become key in the development of the societies they come from due to your inspiration.’’ He added.
