Academic intuitions have been urged to address societal challenges such as injustices through serving the interests of the society, having the moral authority to address social injustice, and being a miniature society where justice and other social virtues should prevail and be evident.

This was during the 36th annual Ramadhan convention held on Tuesday 18th April 2023 at Islamic University in Uganda's main campus Mbale under the theme ‘’ISLAM AND SOCIAL JUSTICE’’

The event was organized by the Dawah liaison and community outreach committee (DLCOC) with participants attending both physically and online via Zoom.

In his presentation, Mr. Gyagenda Swamad a lecturer at IUIU urged higher institutions of learning to nurture people with social justice awareness and consciousness.

Mr. Huzaifa Lutalo suggested that Institutions that collect and manage zakat should be set up to cater to the needy, hence reducing the problem of inequality and its attendant evils.

‘’Islamic financial institutions should be set up including banks, insurance agencies among others, Muslims should therefore put up a financial institution which is not exploitative to help the poor’’ he added.

The director of female's campus kabojja, Dr. Madinah Nabukeera reminded the participants about the objectives of a family and marriage. She encouraged Muslims to detest from acts of homosexuality as it does not represent the prophets’ teachings.
