IUIU Dean of Students pledges free and fair guild elections.

The coordinator of Islamic University Mr. Siraj Mukwana has promised guild aspirants and students fraternity free and fair elections.


Mr. Siraj said this while delivering a speech during the guild presidential debates held on the 3rd of May 2023 held at IUIU main campus Mbale. ‘’ I want to call upon all of you to keep away from violence and any acts that are contrary to the rules of the university’’.


The guild debate was presided over by Dr Dago Ali a lecturer and former guild president (2006-2007) at IUIU main campus and Mr Abdul Swamad Gyagenda a lecturer at IUIU.


A Total of five candidates Oguti Nasir, Ssebunya Shafie, Adam Muhamad Usman, Nakyaze Airat, Mutuwa Mastula. (Three male students and two female students) were successfully assessed and found eligible for the general elections in the position of guild president by the Shura council. 


Adam Muhamad Usman a Nigerian student stepped down from the race due to unclear reasons leaving a tight race between Oguti Nasir and Ssebunya Shafie.


The chairperson guild electoral commission Watenga Siragi warned the leaders in the interim government against soliciting votes for the aspirants. ‘’ if you want to campaign for anyone, please first resign from the position you are holding.’’ ‘’For the guild aspirants who will be found guilty of conniving with members of the interim government you risk not appearing on the ballot paper’’ he added.
