Hundreds of Muslims turned up for Eid al Adha prayers at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) on Sunday the 17th of June 2024 at the main campus in Mbale.

Dr. Jamail Sserwanga, Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, urged Muslims to uphold the tradition of animal sacrifice and share with neighbors as a symbol of unity.

‘’ We encourage all Muslims with the ability to sacrifice to go ahead and do in fulfillment of the of the tradition in the Muslim faith and world together for the development of their families and communities.’’

Dr. Jamil reiterated the message given in the sermon called for peace in families and prayed for those in areas with political instabilities and war like Palestine, Sudan, and Gaza that the almighty Allah brings them peace.

The celebration also included distribution of meat and prayers for pilgrims performing Hajj in Mecca and Medina. "We hope their journey strengthens their faith and benefits humanity," Dr. Sserwanga said.

Dr. Jamil emphasized the importance of good character and avoiding negative behavior. He highlighted IUIU's commitment to development through education.

He added that the university is growing stronger and gearing up for the 2024/2025 academic year starting in August and urged potential candidates to apply for programs from certificates and diplomas to Bachelor's degrees, Master's, and Ph. D.s across all campuses.

Dr. Jamil also called for support from the public towards the forthcoming Run For The Gild Child Event organized by IUIU to fundraise support for girl child education on the 30th of June 2024.
