IUIU Hosts Annual Legal Empowerment Summit 2026 to Promote Access to Justice

The Islamic University in Uganda Female’s Campus was graced to host the Talk to Tonny Event on the 05th September, 2024
The “Talk to Tonny” event was an insightful session featuring various speakers who shared valuable insights on how to excel in today’s competitive world, which included;
Counsel Josephine Luzige on the topic of Empowering Future Leaders, emphasizing that honing your skills and craft is vital for success. Courage stands out as a key trait for future leaders, and leaving a legacy is crucial; it’s not solely about personal achievements, but also about paving the way for others.
Dr. Joyce Nalunga with a topic, Personal branding and tools of trade. Where he emphasised that Personal branding is key in creating a professional identity. It doesn’t matter where you are as success is not attributed to location, age or religion. She added that you are supposed to be in the right place at the right time and the right season, and choosing the right partner is important as this affects many areas of life. He added that Decisions made today will shape your future success, especially during critical seasons in life.
Counsel Bazira Anthony with a topic, Addressing Fear and Building Skills, where he mentioned that A lawyer can be anything, but knowing your values is essential to defining your path. He added that Public speaking is one of the best and most important attributes of a lawyer, and developing soft skills will take you places that academic books alone cannot. Building a skill is crucial for personal and professional development.
Counsel Asuman Matovu with a topic: Becoming exceptional. He emphasised that developing skills like the ability to speak, write, and think critically is vital. He added that Professional competition should not be viewed as a challenge from peers but from those with years of experience, and it’s important to break barriers and strive for exceptionalism by thinking outside the box and embracing feedback. He added that investing in mentorship, humility, personal branding, and networking will go a long way in building a successful career.
The event was closed by encouraging participants to “do common things uncommonly well.” This phrase was a reminder to approach even the most mundane tasks with a level of excellence that distinguishes oneself.
