IUIU Successfully Hosts ICT Fest 2025 at Kampala Campus

The ICT Fest 2025, organised by the Faculty of Science Students Association (FOSSA), was successfully held on 12th April 2025 at the IUIU Kampala Campus. The event not only brought together Faculty of Science students from the different IUIU campuses (Females' Campus, Main and Kampala Campuses), but also from Islamic Call University College (ICUC), IUIU’s Sister University. This year’s theme was "Bridging Innovation and Creativity".  The annual Fest aims to inspire creativity, foster innovation, and build networks among our continuing students and IUIU’s Alumni in the ICT Industry. The Fest covered a wide range of contests and activities, including;

1. ICT Quiz Competition – Testing theoretical and practical ICT knowledge.
2. Computer Repair & Maintenance Challenge – Hands-on challenge in assembling & maintaining Computers, both software and hardware.
3. Networking Challenge – Participants were tasked to set up and configure LANs and diagnose faults.
4. Coding Challenges – Student-led presentations on coding-based innovation challenges.
5. Video Games Contest – Promoting physical engagement and team bonding.
6. Career Guidance Talks & Keynotes – Industry-relevant discussions led by IUIU Alumni professionals.

The various challenges and contests were judged by a group of adjudicators, which comprised both Faculty of Science Staff as well as Industry Professionals. These included: - Mr. Lutaaya Huzaifah – C.E.O, Pixsar Media; Mr. Ssentongo Habib – Moderator, Udemy; Mr. Mulyazzawo Rashid – ERP Support Administrator, IUIU-KC; Mrs. Nassanga Sharifa – Lecturer, IUIU-KC; Dr. Nakkazi Rukia – Lecturer, IUIU-KC; Mr. Seguya Asad – Lecturer, IUIU-KC; Mr. Kasagga Usama – Lecturer, IUIU-KC; Mr. Pembe Fahad – Reasearch Assistant, MARL IUIU-KC.

The colourful event was also attended by senior administrative and academic managers, including Dr. Kasozi Idris Sinan, Deputy Director of Kampala Campus; Mr. Sumare Muhammad, Deputy Academic Registrar; Mr Walusimbi Abdulhakim, FOSSA Patron and FOS Coordinator of Kampala Campus; and Dr. Umar Yahya, Dean of the Faculty of Science.

The winners of the different contest categories, as well as the overall winner and runners up, were awarded with medals and prizes. All participants also received certificates of participation. It was proposed that next year’s Fest include an entrepreneurship component, where participants would be challenging for a cash prize to scale or commercialise their innovative solutions.
