Rwanda’s Mufti Visits IUIU to Forge Stronger Islamic Education Partnership

The Academic Affairs Committee of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has conducted an inspection tour at the main campus in Mbale, assessing progress on key infrastructure developments and academic planning initiatives.
Speaking during the visit, Prof. Umar Kakumba, Professor of Public Sector Management and committee member, emphasized the university’s strategic shift toward a competence-based curriculum aligned with national education reforms.
"The university is tactfully aligning instruction and assessment to produce graduates who are both knowledgeable and practically skilled to compete in the modern labor market," he said.
The committee, chaired by Prof. Abdul Kasozi, also discussed the importance of incorporating Islamic cultural identity into new infrastructure designs. Recommendations will be forwarded to the Works and Infrastructure Committee to ensure that future university buildings reflect this heritage.
A major highlight of the visit was the inspection of the Faculty of Engineering facility set to host IUIU’s Faculty of Engineering. The project includes laboratories and a student hostel with a capacity of over 500 The first student intake is expected in the 2026/2027 academic year.
The project is generously funded by the Islamic Development Bank with support from the Government of Uganda.
