NCHE APPROVES FOUR NURSING PROGRAMMES AT IUIU FEMALES’ CAMPUS

The Uganda National Council for Higher Education has approved more four Nursing programs at the Islamic University in Uganda Females’ campus Nursing school.

 This was confirmed by the IUIU academic registrar Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar recently.

 The four newly accredited programs include Diploma in Nursing (Direct), Diploma in Nursing (extension), Diploma in Midwifery (Direct) and Diploma in Midwifery (Extension).

This brings the total number of programmes at the newly established nursing school to 6 including the initial Certificate in General Nursing and Certificate in midwifery that the nursing school started with.

Speaking to the Female’s Campus Director Dr. Madina Nabukeera, she says that this new development has opened more opportunity for the many girls who had missed out a chance to enroll for health science programmes especially in a distinctive environment that has good facilities and adequate human resource.

“Our Nursing programmes are unique in a way that they are community based. our students shall be dealing with the local community especially in primary health care so that they can be key in solving the challenging common health issues” Dr Madina stated.

The Director explained that the Campus offers a special course blended with faith that will see health workers put God first in the execution of their duty as midwives or nurses.

Meanwhile, IUIU Habbib Medical school has been listed among the top three medical schools in Uganda with adequate facilities to train medical students.

This was according to a recent inspection report from the third joint East African Community team of health Experts.

The team comprising of medical and dental practitioners from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda where checking on conformity of Universities to standards governing medical and dental schools to improve education training in the region.
