The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has received a transformative donation from the Islamic Solidarity Fund (ISF) aimed at accelerating the development of the university's infrastructure and academic reach.
The announcement was made following a high-level visit to the IUIU Females’ Campus in Kabojja by an esteemed ISF delegation comprising H.E. Dr. Muhammad Aba Alkhayl, H.E. Dr. Abdel Raziq Mohammed, and H.E. Dr. Kurdi Shumukh Ali. The visit, described as more than ceremonial, culminated in the signing of a formal agreement between IUIU and the Fund.
This agreement heralds two key areas of support that are set to impact the university and its stakeholders for generations to come.
1. Completion of the School of Nursing Block
The ISF has committed funds to fast-track the completion of the long-anticipated School of Nursing block, the university’s female campus located in kabojja, a facility that will play a vital role in training the next generation of healthcare professionals. The infrastructure is envisioned as a center of excellence equipped to provide practical training, support academic research, and enhance the overall quality of healthcare education within an Islamic ethical framework. Once completed, it will serve as a critical hub for addressing Uganda’s growing need for qualified nurses and medical personnel.

2. Scholarships for International Students
In a further show of confidence in IUIU’s regional influence, the ISF donation includes scholarship provisions specifically for international students. This initiative underscores IUIU’s commitment to diversity, accessibility, and academic inclusion, providing opportunities to deserving students across Africa and beyond, regardless of economic background.
Speaking on the development, university leadership, steered by Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, who is the Rector, expressed profound appreciation to Allah (SWT) and to the Islamic Solidarity Fund for their unwavering support. They emphasized that this partnership is not merely financial in nature but represents a shared vision of educational empowerment, faith-based service, and regional transformation.

“This generous support from the Islamic Solidarity Fund transcends mere financial assistance,” said the university’s Rector, Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda. “It is a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of Islamic brotherhood and a resounding vote of confidence in IUIU’s mission.”
The university community, including Alumni, staff, and students, has lauded the ISF for its foresight and dedication to nurturing Islamic higher education. The scholarships, in particular, are expected to draw a greater international student presence, strengthening IUIU’s role as a leading Islamic academic institution in Africa.
As the university moves forward with the construction of the nursing facility at the female’s campus and implementation of the scholarship program, stakeholders remain hopeful that this will mark the beginning of an even stronger, long-term partnership between IUIU and the Islamic Solidarity Fund.
“We pray to Allah (SWT) to bless the Islamic Solidarity Fund abundantly for this noble investment in the future of education and human development,” the Rector added.
This milestone comes at a time when institutions of higher learning are increasingly seeking sustainable partnerships to expand their reach, infrastructure, and impact. With this landmark donation, IUIU continues to chart a course rooted in faith, academic excellence, and community transformation.
