The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kampala Campus has rolled out a newly structured staff orientation program, marking a strategic enhancement of its onboarding process as part of its ongoing commitment to institutional excellence. The inaugural training, held on Friday, August 29, 2025, aligns with the university’s recently approved Staff Regulations 2024 and is designed to provide a formal, unified introduction to the university’s history, policies, and professional expectations for all new employees.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Secretariat Department, headed by Hajji Walugembe Mustapha, the Deputy University Secretary for the Kampala Campus. He emphasized that the formalized approach is designed to systematically integrate new hires into the university’s distinct culture.

"The aim of this orientation is to familiarize new employees with the University’s history, policies, and procedures, ensuring a smooth transition into their roles," said Hajji Mustapha in his opening remarks. He encouraged the new staff to "embrace the spirit of teamwork, excellence, and Islamic values that define the Islamic University in Uganda, their new home.

The comprehensive agenda provided staff with a deep dive into the institution's framework. The Campus Director, Dr. Kasule Twaha, delivered a foundational presentation on the history and evolution of IUIU. This was followed by a crucial session from the University Secretary, Mr. Sewankambo Hamza, who discussed excerpts of the new Staff Regulations 2024, clarifying expectations for conduct and performance.

Furthering the theme of professional development, the Deputy University Secretary from the Main Campus, Mr. Kinsambwe Rashid, presented on Performance Management, detailing the appraisal process and the importance of setting goals using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Presentations on practical matters included an overview of Staff Benefits by Accountant Hajati Kajumba Sauya and a demonstration of the Academica ERP system by ERP Manager Mr. Mulyazawo Rashid.

A solemn highlight of the day was the administration of the Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy, conducted by the University Secretary. This ceremony served to underscore the profound commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism that is expected of every staff member.

In his closing remarks, the Deputy Director of Kampala Campus, Dr. Kasozi Ediriisa Sinaani, reiterated the university’s commitment to staff development. This revamped orientation program marks a significant step in fostering a unified culture of collaboration and innovation, setting a strong foundation for a productive and fulfilling tenure for all new staff at IUIU.
