IUIU Hosts Professors from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGU) Under Erasmus+ Staff Mobility

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted two distinguished professors from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGU), Turkey, under the Erasmus+ Programme Staff Mobility framework as part of ongoing academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.

The delegation comprised Prof. Rasim Koçyiğit, Deputy Vice-Rector of TOGU, and Prof. Dr. İrfan Oğuz, head of the Agricultural Research Centre at the same university. Both professors are highly regarded agricultural experts, specialising in soil science and agronomy, respectively.

Visit to Kampala Campus

The professors began their visit at the Kampala Campus, where they were warmly received by the Vice Rector, Dr. Jamil Serwanga. They were briefed on IUIU’s ongoing programmes, international partnerships, and areas of institutional priority.

Engagements at Main Campus, Mbale

At the Main Campus in Mbale, the delegation held discussions with the leadership of the Faculty of Agribusiness and Natural Resource Sciences (FANRES).
According to Prof. Mohamed El Nour Taha, Dean of FANRES, the professors expressed strong interest in the faculty’s academic direction, research priorities, and emerging collaboration opportunities.

Faculty members from the Department of Crop and Animal Science and the Department of Food Science and Nutrition shared insights on current initiatives in teaching, research, and community engagement.

Strengthening Academic Programmes

Prof. El Nour emphasized that the visit contributes significantly to IUIU’s broader strategy of enhancing agricultural training, research capacity, and university–industry linkages. He noted that partnerships with institutions such as TOGU support the university’s efforts to strengthen its academic programmes and practical relevance in Uganda’s agricultural sector.

High-Level Meeting with Uganda’s Ambassador to Türkiye at the TİKA Country Office

A major highlight of the visit was a strategic meeting held at the office of the TİKA Country Coordinator, Mr. Murat Çetin, in Kampala. The meeting brought together:

During the discussion, it was agreed that joint proposals for feasible agricultural projects will be developed and submitted to TİKA, following TİKA’s demonstrated interest in supporting agricultural development at IUIU.
