IUIU Graduates Over 2,400 as Vice President Jessica Alupo Honoured at 34th Ceremony

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) held its 34th Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, 20th December 2025, at the main campus in Mbale City, marking a major milestone in the institution's journey of academic growth and service to society.
A total of 2,484 graduands were awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates across various disciplines, reflecting the university's expanding academic portfolio and increasing student enrolment from Uganda and beyond.
The ceremony was graced by Vice President Jessica Alupo, who was conferred with an honorary Doctorate in recognition of her outstanding leadership, commitment to education and support for national development.
The Rector IUIU, Assoc. Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda highlighted IUIU's steady growth since its inception in 1988, noting progress in academic excellence, infrastructure development and inclusivity, with women forming a significant proportion of this year's graduates.
In his remarks, the university leadership urged the graduands to uphold integrity, professionalism and service as they transition into the world of work and leadership, in line with IUIU's mission of producing competent and morally upright graduates.
The Guest of Honour, Uganda's Vice President Jessica Alupo, commended the Islamic University in Uganda for its remarkable growth, citing rising student enrolment, introduction of new academic programmes and strengthening global partnerships as indicators of an institution with a clear and ambitious future vision. She emphasised that an IUIU degree represents rigorous training and quality assurance, assuring society of the competence and professionalism of its graduates.
