IUIU, SESRIC Sign MoU to Strengthen Education and Skills Development Across OIC Member States

  • 02nd July, 2026 6:41pm

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), marking a significant step towards strengthening academic cooperation and capacity building across the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of IUIU, Associate Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, and the Director General of SESRIC, H.E. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk.

The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and expertise and to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The partnership will contribute to the development of the education sector, as well as vocational education and training within OIC member countries.

Under the agreement, IUIU and SESRIC will collaborate in academic research, staff and student capacity development, training programmes, knowledge exchange, and other initiatives that promote educational excellence and socio-economic development.

SESRIC, a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) headquartered in Ankara, Türkiye, was established in 1978. The Centre's mandate is to collect and disseminate socio-economic data, conduct research on the development of OIC member states, and organise training programmes that support sustainable development and cooperation among member countries.
