The Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication program offers specialized emphases in broadcast, print, and photo journalism, communication studies, advertising, and public relations. This degree encompasses a diverse range of courses that explore the utilization of new media technologies and their practical implementation.
The curriculum provides students with an interdisciplinary framework encompassing fundamental theories and competencies essential for their development as media and communications professionals, as well as enhancing their critical understanding as media consumers.
Students are afforded the chance to engage in internships and autonomous projects, so enabling them to acquire practical experience in the fields of mass media and communication.
The curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of communication professionals who possess both ethical and technological proficiency. These individuals are equipped with the skills necessary to create a good influence within their respective environments and society as a whole. By engaging in various program activities, students have the potential to develop into knowledgeable, accountable, innovative, and analytical communicators who possess the skills necessary to actively engage in an ever-evolving media landscape.
Alumni of this programme have pursued several professional paths within the media industry, encompassing roles in advertising, corporate communication, public relations, journalism, and broadcasting. Students with a keen interest in pursuing postgraduate studies have successfully gained admission to prominent graduate institutions worldwide.
Admission to the programme shall be through any of the following avenues:
Direct Entry
Candidates admitted to the Mass Communication program must hold at least two
principal passes in Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE); plus Five
credits at ‘O’ Level with a pass in English or in General Paper at ‘A’ level or in any
other language at A-level.
Diploma Entry
Diploma holders in a related- discipline from recognized and accredited institutions
Mature Age Entry
Candidates who have done and passed relevant Mature Age entry examinations from
recognized and accredited institutions/ universities are eligible for admission.
Higher Education Certificate (Humanities)
Credit Transfer
Credit accumulation and transfer from another university in the same program (BSc.
Mass Communication).
