The establishment of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences occurred in 1995, seven years subsequent to the establishment of IUIU. The faculty initially offered three undergraduate degree programs, namely the BSS Combined Honours, B.A Combined Honours, and B.Sc Mass Communication. The faculty now offers six undergraduate programs, which consist of a Diploma in Social Work and Community Development, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration, a Bachelor's degree in Economics, a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. The range of postgraduate programs offered by the institution encompasses the following: a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, a Master of Arts in Kiswahili, a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Resolution, and a Master of Arts in Political Science with a specialization in Science. The faculty, thus, offers significant prospects for career progression and growth.
