Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The establishment of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences occurred in 1995, seven years subsequent to the establishment of IUIU. The faculty initially offered three undergraduate degree programs, namely the BSS Combined Honours, B.A Combined Honours, and B.Sc Mass Communication. The faculty now offers six undergraduate programs, which consist of a Diploma in Social Work and Community Development, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and Social Administration, a Bachelor's degree in Economics, a Bachelor's degree in Development Studies, and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. The range of postgraduate programs offered by the institution encompasses the following: a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, a Master of Arts in Kiswahili, a Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Resolution, and a Master of Arts in Political Science with a specialization in Science. The faculty, thus, offers significant prospects for career progression and growth.

To function as a university academic unit that produces highly skilled and knowledgeable graduates in social science and humanities, yet ethically and morally upright professionals to champion the cause for socio – economic and political transformation.


To be a center of academic excellence in the conduct of quality research, teaching and dissemination of knowledge in social sciences, humanities and arts in order to contribute towards a positive transformation and progress for developing communities, societies and countries.
