Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

Islamic University in Uganda hosted a delegation from Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University (TOGU), Turkey, On Wednesday the 30th of January 2024.
The visitors were received by university management members led by the Vice-Rector in charge of Academic Affairs Dr. Jamil Serwanga, the university secretary Mr Sewankambo Hamza, the Academic Registrar Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar, and Deans from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences.
The guests included Prof. Yusuf Temur, Prof. Tuba Karabey, Dr. Hila Ozbek, and Prof. Ercan Cacan from the faculties of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Health Sciences, as well as a nursing and midwifery department.
Dr Jamil Serwanga Commended the delegation for visiting IUIU highlighting the importance of the interaction in promoting international collaboration and academic exchange at IUIU.
Dr Jamil called for the utilization of opportunities for joint research projects in various fields, including economics, molecular biology, and health science. The aim is to enhance knowledge and promote scientific advancements
The meeting highlighted scholarships available for postgraduate studies at TOGU and explored the possibility of offering similar opportunities to IUIU students.
The delegation shared information about TOGU's Palliative Care House and expressed interest in establishing a similar centre at IUIU to promote compassionate healthcare practices and a desire to establish a dedicated Erasmus Office at IUIU to facilitate academic exchange and partnerships.
The Guests later delivered lectures to students at both the Main Campus and Kampala Campus. Prof. Ercan Cacan gave a presentation on Cancer Biology to the Main Campus students, while Prof. Yusuf Temur, Prof. Tuba Karabey, and Dr. Hila Ozbek addressed the Nursing students. The lectures provided valuable insights into the subjects and fostered academic exchange between the two groups.
This visit has provided a platform for future collaboration and strengthened the relationship between IUIU and Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University.
