IUIU Rector Pays Courtesy Visit to the Uganda Embassy in Ankara

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and Ankara University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic collaboration and exchange on 24th June, 2025. The MoU was signed by Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, Rector of IUIU, and H.E. Prof. Dr. Neced Unüvar, Rector of Ankara University.
The ceremony was witnessed by H.E. Nusura Tiperu, Ambassador of Uganda to Turkey, and other foreign service officers. Mr. Mutyaba Abdallah, Senior Administrative Assistant at IUIU, accompanied the Rector.
Ankara University is one of Turkey's oldest and most prestigious universities, founded in 1946 with a strong reputation for academic excellence, research, and innovation. The university has 13 faculties, 5 institutes, and 21 research centres, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs.
The MoU between IUIU and Ankara University covers areas such as: Staff and student exchange programs, Research collaborations, Joint academic programs, Faculty development.
Prof. Dr. Neced Unüvar noted that this is the first MoU signed with a Ugandan university, and Uganda is the fourth African country to partner with Ankara University, following Cameroon, Gambia, and Tanzania.
Prof. Gyagenda expressed gratitude for the collaboration opportunity and assured IUIU's commitment to implementing the MoU. This partnership is expected to enhance academic exchange, research, and innovation between the two institutions.
