The IUIU delegation visited the industrial park to explore opportunities for collaboration in training, joint research, student internships, and community outreach.
The delegation included senior university officials such as the Academic Registrar, directors, deputy directors, deans, and administrative staff from various faculties and departments.
During the meeting, Dr. Serwanga highlighted IUIU’s commitment to building partnerships that enhance practical learning and innovation. In response, the Chief Administrative Officer of Sino Uganda Mbale Industrial Park welcomed the initiative, describing the partnership as long overdue.
Sino Uganda proposed several areas of cooperation, including recruitment opportunities for IUIU graduates, academic exchange programmes with Chinese institutions, scholarships for students and staff, and support through training equipment once the partnership is formalized.
The industrial park, which spans 600 hectares, hosts 82 factories and employs approximately 3,500 workers, making it one of the major industrial hubs in Eastern Uganda.
Both institutions agreed on several follow-up actions, including drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), organizing a factory tour during the next meeting, and strengthening engagements aimed at benefiting students, staff, and the wider community.
