Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Main Campus in Mbale held its admissions ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic year on October 10, 2024, welcoming new students into the institution.
The event was Graced by the Resident City Commissioner of Mbale City, Hon. Nasike Asumin, as the chief guest. Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, the Academic Registrar, faculty deans, the Guild President, the Vice Lady, and the new students.
Dr. Jamil commended the students for choosing IUIU, urging them to maintain the university’s reputation and actively contribute to its growth.
“IUIU is bigger than us, and each of us has a role to play in its growth and progress,” he remarked.
He assured the new students that the university would equip them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive in the job market and beyond.
“Knowledge and skills will help you secure jobs, but discipline will help you keep them,” Dr. Serwanga added.
Hon. Nasike, the chief guest, congratulated the students on their admission and praised the university’s administration for welcoming them. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing education and encouraged students to make the most of their academic journey.
“The beauty of learning is that nobody can take it away from you,” she said, urging the students to respect their health and bodies throughout their time at the institution.
She advised them to stay focused on their studies and use the opportunities available at IUIU.
Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar expressed gratitude to the students for choosing IUIU and pledged her office’s full support to help them achieve their goals.
“It’s from day one that you begin making your mark in academics,” she said, stressing the importance of setting a strong foundation.
Dr. Wakabi encouraged students to explore their potential, take on leadership roles, and aim for academic excellence. She also highlighted the awards and recognitions available for high-achieving students at graduation ceremonies.
“We believe in your abilities because you earned your place here on merit,” she noted.
