The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is hosting a delegation from the Forum for African Women Educationists Zimbabwe (FAWEZI) from 5th-7th May 2026 as part of a regional benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening inclusive access to higher education.
The delegation is led by Professor Faraul Tagwira, Permanent Secretary in Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.

The visit is coordinated through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). It will bring together a 17-member team comprising representatives from FAWE Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education, universities, and the MasterCard Foundation.
IUIU has been selected as one of the leading institutions in Uganda offering the Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC) programme, which is designed to widen access to university education for underrepresented groups.
The purpose of the visit is to enable the Zimbabwean delegation to gain practical insights into the design and implementation of access programmes, as Zimbabwe develops its own Science Foundation Programme targeting increased participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

During their engagement at IUIU, the delegation will interact with faculty, students, and alumni to better understand the impact of the HEAC programme. They will also review institutional frameworks, quality assurance mechanisms, and best practices that support equitable access to higher education.
