IUIU Law Lecturer shares Legal and Policy Perspectives on Uganda’s AI Future During Uganda Law Society High-Level Panel

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has held an Induction training programme for newly recruited academic, administrative and support staff on Wednesday, 30th September 2026, bringing together new staff from all the four campuses.
The training was presided over by the Rector who was represented by Dr Jamil Serwanga the Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs.
In attendance were Other university management members including the Vice Rector in charge of Finance and Administration, Prof. Abdul Kaziba Mpaata; University Secretary, Mr Sewankambo Hamza; Deputy University Secretary, Mr Kinsambwe Rashid and other university staff.
In his remarks, Prof. Mpaata commended the Office of the University Secretary for organising the Induction and urged the new staff to understand their responsibilities and obligations. He implored to be professional, result oriented, uphold integrity and consistently demonstrate the values and pursuit of excellence expected at IUIU.

He emphasised the importance of trustworthiness, enthusiasm and professionalism in carrying out their duties, while also encouraging respect for diversity, teamwork and adherence to the university’s standards.
Representing the Rector, Dr Jamil highlighted the history and growth of IUIU, its leadership and core functions, particularly teaching and learning, with emphasis on Competence-Based Education. He noted that the university has continued to grow as a centre of excellence, with nine faculties, and emphasised the importance of research, innovation, community service, and partnerships and linkages across Uganda and beyond.
The University Secretary, Mr Sewankambo Hamza, highlighted staff regulations, recruitment and selection procedures, and the general code of conduct. He urged staff to maintain professionalism and refrain from conducting personal business during official working hours.

Mr Kinsambwe Rashid, the Deputy University Secretary, reminded the new staff about the university’s reporting structure and urged them to respect authority. He also highlighted staff assessment processes, the roles of supervisors and the open-door policy across university offices, encouraging staff to interact freely, network and contribute to the growth of the university.
Representing the new staff, Prof. A. F Usman, a member of the TAC, commended the university for organising the induction in a timely manner and appreciated fellow staff for choosing to serve the institution. He encouraged the new staff to be decent examples to students, dress appropriately and speak truthfully, emphasising that the university can only grow when all staff grow together.
He prayed to Allah to continue to making IUIU a source of knowledge for people in Uganda and beyond.
