Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

IUIU was privileged to have Penal Reform International partner with our university and the various counsel who led the Faculty of Law, year three students through the various trainings.
This training expounded more on the criminal trial procedure concerning the death penalty.
It was an educative training. The trainers shed more light on the opening statements made at the start of a trial.
The need to acquire more knowledge and the importance of knowing the case in and out.
The importance of the examination-in-chief, the cross-examination, and the re-examination. This helped the students to understand the nature of the questions they were supposed to ask during the three examinations.
The importance of a closing statement and is where praying for mitigation for a client whose facts don’t stand in their favour.
Lastly, the prison visits, equipped the students with knowledge and experience of what inmates go through with the judicial system of the country citing delays in hearings of cases, denial of bail, and lack of legal representation.
