The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) participated in the Uganda Deep Tech Summit, held from 30th September to 2nd October 2024, at Four Points by Sheraton Kampala – Uganda. The 3-Day Summit was organized by the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation – Office of the President of the Republic of Uganda (STI-OP) and co-implemented by TIBIC (Technology Innovation and Business Incubation Centre) under NSTEI-SEP. The Dean Faculty of Science, Dr Umar Yahya, represented IUIU, under the Commercialization of Academic Research Initiative (CARI), in which IUIU is a participating University. CARI is an initiative funded by STI-OP and coordinated by RUFORUM.
The goal of the Summit was to chart a strategy for Uganda’s investment in Deep Technologies, drawing from the expertise and experience of the global Deep Technologies community. The Summit attracted Innovation Strategists, Cooperate Managers, Entrepreneurs, Investors and Funders, Academic Managers, the Industry, Governments’ Policy Makers, and Startup Founders, among several stakeholders, from Uganda, the rest of Africa, Europe and the US. The outcomes of the Summit will, in part, inform Uganda’s decision-making on the way forward with regards to building the 5 pillars of a sustainable Deep Tech-driven Innovation Ecosystem. i.e. Policy Frameworks, Infrastructure, Talent and Education, Funding & Capital, and Marketing & International Openness.
