IUIU Staff Urged to Elevate Customer Care for Long-Term Success in Higher Education

Staff at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) have been encouraged to prioritize customer satisfaction and enhance their customer care practices to ensure the institution's longevity. This call was made by Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, during a customer care workshop organized by the Faculty of Management on September 3, 2024, under the theme "Towards Enhancing Customer Satisfaction in the Competitive Higher Education Industry."

Dr. Serwanga emphasized that effective customer care is essential for the survival of any business, as it helps attract and retain a large customer base. He stressed the importance of customer satisfaction as a key driver for success in the competitive higher education sector.

In his presentation, Dr. Ahmad Walugembe outlined the core responsibilities of universities, including teaching, research, and community development. He urged participants to identify existing communication channels and document challenges and gaps in communication to foster brand advocacy, gain a competitive advantage, and generate innovative ideas from customers.

Dr. Walugembe also stressed the importance of community engagement in strengthening university branding and building robust networks.

Ms. Shifa Wahab, a lecturer from the Faculty of Management, highlighted the significance of inter-departmental communication and understanding student demographics to tailor services that meet their needs effectively.

Dr. Amandu Yasin added that moral integrity, strong leadership, and the quality of graduates are critical components of excellent customer care.

In her closing remarks, the Academic Registrar of IUIU, Dr. Halim Wakabi Akbar, commended the workshop organizers and urged staff to deliver services per the university's guiding policies. She reiterated the importance of identifying and addressing areas needing improvement to elevate the overall quality of service delivery at IUIU.
