The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) has set Monday 5th July 2021 as the date to start online lectures for semester II of the 2020/2021 academic year.
The semester was earlier expected to start on 26th June but was cut short following a 42 days country wide lockdown in mid-June that also saw all Academic institutions closed amidst the resurgence of the novel corona virus disease.
According to the IUIU Academic Registrar Dr Halima Wakabi Akbar, the second semester will be conducted virtually (online) through the Online Distance Learning (ODeL) program and the ERP platform.
Dr. Halima notes that the online classes will start after a re-training and sensitization of the students and the lectures on how to use the online learning platforms.
“From Monday 28th June – Sunday 4th July, 2021, students and staff will undergo re-training and re-sensitization on OdeL and ERP. Lectures and normal registration will begin on Monday, 5th July, 2021 and normal registration will end on Sunday, 8th August, 2021,” she says.
The AR however noted that the school reopening dates are subject to change and she urges students to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to safeguard themselves from the pandemic.
“Kindly, note that this is subject to the next Presidential directive on the lockdown, after which any new developments will be communicated,” she added.
She implored the students and the entire staff fraternity to stick to to the Standard Operating Procedures, get immunized so as to keep safe from the deadly corona virus.
