Press Statement

  • 05th April, 2025 9:42am

Today, 4th April , 2025, light rain fell; however, unexpectedly, very heavy winds caused structural damage to one corner of the Al-Hijji Block, a classroom block at the Islamic University's main campus in Mbale. The affected area includes a computer laboratory, specifically Lab 5, as well as the offices of the Deputy Dean and the Head of the Department of Computer Science.

We are very relieved to report that no one was injured during this incident. However, the computers in Lab 5 were exposed to a significant amount of water and have been moved to the laboratory directly below, Lab 4, as a precaution against further damage.

This unfortunate event may cause some temporary changes to our class schedule. Therefore, with immediate effect, all classes that were previously scheduled to take place in Lab 5 and Lab 4 will be conducted online until further notice. Please keep an eye on official announcements and communications from your departments for updates on when in-person classes will resume in these labs.

A team has been organized to replace the damaged roof, and they are scheduled to arrive very early this morning to begin the repair work. At the same time, our ICT team will return to assess the condition of the computers, determine the extent of the damage, and determine how many may need to be replaced.

While we acknowledge that damage has occurred, we want to assure all students, faculty, and staff that the situation is under control and there is no need for alarm. We are taking quick and practical steps to address the situation and minimize any disruption to our academic activities.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to restore the affected areas. We will provide further updates as soon as they are available.

Sincerely,

Rehema Kantono

Public Relations Officer,
