The Faculty of Science at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted an appreciation ceremony to Honor the outgoing Dean, Hajji Shaban Okurut and officially welcomed Dr. Umar Yahaya as the new Dean on Tuesday, 4th June, 2024.

The event, held in the university boardroom, was attended by faculty members, other Deans, and the Vice-Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, represented by the Academic Registrar, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar.

In his remarks, Hajji Shaban expressed gratitude to IUIU for the opportunity to serve and grow, praying for the continued success and impact of the faculty.
"As you move forward as a faculty, I want you to remember that the world needs people like you who are passionate about learning new ideas, committed to making a difference, and willing to take risks," he said.

Dr. Abdul Walusansa, a lecturer from the Faculty of Science, commended Hajji Shaban for his guidance and patience during his exemplary leadership.

Dr. Umar Yahaya, the incoming Dean, thanked Hajji Shaban for his commitment and leadership, requesting his guidance whenever needed. Dr. Umar outlined his key areas of focus as Dean, including enhancing teaching and learning, multidisciplinary research, optimization of administrative processes to minimize service variations, and targeted staff capacity development.

"I am taking over this role at a time when IUIU has active partnerships in the form of MOUs with over 31 universities and institutions worldwide. With this comes several opportunities, and we need to leverage these partnerships and work together," Dr. Umar highlighted.
Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar appreciated the outgoing team led by Hajji Shaban for elevating the faculty to its current standing. She pledged to collaborate with the faculty and administration to address challenges raised by both the outgoing and incoming teams.

"We are open to criticism and positive comments as the Office of the Academic Registrar to advance academics at IUIU. We know where IUIU has come from and where we want it to be. Let us find all ways in our power to make it happen," she affirmed.
