IUIU Hosts Research Workshop to Launch Sensitization and Dissemination of Research, Publication, and Innovation Policy

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) held a significant research workshop on January 10, 2025, at the main campus in Mbale, focused on sensitizing participants to the university's newly approved Research, Publication, and Innovation Policy, as well as strategies for its dissemination and effective implementation.

 

In his opening remarks, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Vice Rector in charge of Academic Affairs, commended the administration for organizing the timely workshop, given the evolving landscape of higher education. He emphasized the importance of research, publication, and innovation, urging attendees to reflect on IUIU's historical and current contributions to academia.

 

Dr. Serwanga highlighted that the newly approved policy will empower IUIU staff and students to undertake impactful and transformative research.

 

Dr. Allan Birabi, a Senior Lecturer and Grants Officer, stressed the importance of vigorous training programs for developing grant-winning research proposals. He called for digitizing knowledge resources produced at IUIU to enhance accessibility and ensure broader regional and international reach.

 

Quality Assurance Officer Dr. Aamal Kinnene Nsereko urged faculty and participants to take proactive measures to operationalize the new policy effectively.

In an interview, Dr. Maimuna Nimulola, Director of Research, Publication, and Innovation, expressed optimism about the policy's impact on improving research quality among students and staff at IUIU, foster a culture of publication, ultimately increasing the university's research output and visibility.
