Application Requirements

The application forms MUST include the following credentials;

1. Original Uganda Certificate of Education (‘O’ level) or its equivalent qualification.
2. Original Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (‘A’ level) or its equivalent qualification.
3. Postgraduate applicants are required to submit relevant certified copies of original degree or diploma certificates and their transcripts with two letters of referees
4. Proof of payment of the application fees
5. Photocopy of the identity card of the previous school
6. Birth certificate, National ID, Passport.
7. The University shall how however administer pre-entry exams for courses when deemed necessary.
8. Certificate in Nursing and Certificate in Midwifery will be subjected to interviews and admission will be given upon passing the interviews.

GENERAL MINIMUM UNIVERSITY ENTRY CRITERIA

All eligible students shall be those that possess the minimum academic and professional qualifications.

ORDINARY CERTIFICATE

An applicant vying for a certificate course, he/she is required to have obtained at least three passes at ‘O’ level obtained at the same sitting or the Equivalent.

ORDINARY DIPLOMA COURSE

One principal pass at ‘A’ level in an essential subject and two subsidiaries or the Equivalent with at least five passes at ‘O’ level obtained at the same sitting [1]or the Equivalent or a two-year certificate that is well packaged and relevant to the course applied for.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA

Two years ordinary diploma in the relevant field from a recognized Institution. Applicants with Pass diplomas shall not be accepted.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE

 At least five passes at ‘O’ level or the equivalent plus at least two principal passes at ‘A’ level in essential subjects or a relevant two-year diploma from a recognized institution. Applicants with Pass diplomas or the equivalent shall not be accepted.

Applicants with academic documents prescribed in other languages other than English or Arabic should have their documents translated.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA

An applicant should possess an undergraduate degree or the Equivalent from a recognized institution.

MASTERS DEGREE

Undergraduate degree with a second-class lower division and above or Equivalent from a recognized institution. Applicants with Pass degrees or the Equivalent shall not be accepted unless with a postgraduate Diploma.

DOCTORAL DEGREE (PhD)

A relevant Master’s degree from a recognized institution. Other requirements include; submission of the research proposal, two letters of credible academic referees and show ability to undertake academic research by presenting a written full thesis/dissertation or research paper or part of it.

REMEDIAL STUDIES CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME

This is a pre-degree certificate course that is offered in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science. Eligible applicants for this course are those who possess qualifications from countries whose education system(s) is different from that of Uganda. Admitted students must study for one year before they join a preferred degree programme.

MATURE AGE

The Islamic University in Uganda accepts applications into undergraduate degree programmes through mature age entry examinations. The eligible applicant must have passed the Aptitude test examination set by Islamic University in Uganda or any other University authorized by NCHE with a 50% mark and above and must be 22 years of age and above. The Mature age aptitude test is normally done before the beginning of an academic year. The Mature Age Certificate is valid up to two years from the date of issue.
