Programme Overview

The Bachelor of Development Studies (BDS) is a comprehensive program that spans three academic years and is delivered on a full-time basis. The program is structured into six semesters, with each semester lasting a duration of 17 weeks. Examinations will be administered at the conclusion of every semester. The duration of the teaching period will span 15 weeks, followed by a two-week examination period. The overall graduation requirement consists of 120 credit units (CUs) and 1980 contact hours.

The curriculum has been designed to provide students with opportunities to engage in both theoretical and practical activities pertaining to development. The theoretical component offers pertinent theoretical frameworks for understanding the nature of developmental difficulties. Development necessitates the implementation of solutions and the confrontation of challenges.

Admission Requirements

Admission shall be through six channels:

  1. Direct Entry: Candidates shall qualify for admission having passed Uganda Advanced 
    Certificate of Education or its equivalent with a minimum of 2 Principal Passes, and at least 
    5 passes at the Uganda Certificate of Education level, obtained at the same sitting Diploma 
    Entry: Candidates shall qualify for admission having obtained a Diploma in a related field 
    from a recognised Institution
  2. Mature Age Entry: Candidates must have sat and passed a Mature Age Entry examination 
    in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution within the last two years
  3. Bachelor Entry: Candidates with related Bachelor’s degrees
  4. Credit accumulation and transfer from another university in the same discipline
  5. Higher Education Certificates in a related discipline from a recognised higher education 
    Institution.
