Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

The rector Islamic university in Uganda Prof Ismail Ssimbwa Gyagenda, has pledged support to the ALUMNI association. In a meeting held in the university boardroom at Kampala campus, the rector was overwhelmed and happy to see the Alumni association exhibiting togetherness, love, and goodwill and considering the IUIU females’ campus as their first option to project a hostel aimed at collecting income to steer scholarship fund project which will aid girls with school fees challenges.

The chairperson dinner organizing committee Mr. Kawooya Adnan highlighted that the newly established alumni investment club shall be launched at the event. The reunion will be a great opportunity for the alumni to invest together. “At the moment, we are close to 50,000 former students of IUIU. If at least, 10,000 members agree to join the club and each of them saves at least 100 USD per year which is close to UGX 380,000, the club would be in a position to raise one million dollars per year and use it for investment in an agreed upon portfolio’’ He quoted. The chairman assured the rector that the Investment club would effectively promote a savings culture among alumni, especially the recent graduates of the university. It may also be a way for enabling them to acquire assets or investments that they may not be in a position to do on their own. It will be an opportunity of enhancing personal relationships and build social capital for the members. The forthcoming dinner is scheduled for 10th February 2023 at Islamic university in Uganda female’s campus-kabojja.
In his presentation, the head finance dinner organizing committee Mr. Kisambira Titus Mutanda assured the rector that the future is female and its high time Alumni supported the girl child to reduce on the ongoing fallacies and stereotypes of Muslims rejecting the values of a girl child. Mr. kisambira noted that the theme for the forthcoming dinner is “Theme: 'investment opportunities through social synergies' He further assured the rector that the team is committed to building networks and ready to look for funds that will run their budget. Mr. Kisambira appreciated the rectorship for supporting the ideas of the Alumni and requested the construction of a hostel at the females’ campus which will support the scholarship fund project which was initiated by the senior executive committee.

Hajjat Aisha Namboze told the meeting that the scholarship fund was launched during the first preparation of the Alumni dinner 2022, Hajjat Aisha applauded the current steering committee that’s preparing the next dinner for having cemented on what they had initiated. She reported that the scholarship fund is already supporting two students pursuing medicine at IUIU Habib Medical School. In the same meeting, the Alumni donated books about the history of Islam in Uganda which were published in three languages, Arabic, English, and Luganda members,
The executive dinner organizing committee for the 2023 dinner includes Mr. kawooya Adnan chairman., Mr. kisambira Titus chairperson resource mobilization committee, Hajjat Aisha chairperson finance committee, Mr. kaduyu Mansoor, Dr. Madina Nabukeera secretary, MS. Kibwanga Zenna Deputy Secretary. Mr. Baligeya Afan Afan Wakinyankaali. And Mr. Ssejjemba Bashir for Dawa committee.
Mr.Ssenkubuge Mousa the senior executive committee member appreciated the incoming committee for fronting togetherness as a key point to extract out all the Alumni from different academic years. He advised members to work with the leaders of the university to develop and implement growth strategies for annual scholarship fund investment based on empirical data, industry trends, and available resources to also Partner with Major funders, to develop strategies that will help grow the Annual scholarship fundraising drive hence strengthening the bond within the association.

Islamic University in Uganda was opened in the year 1988 by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) under a bilateral agreement between the Government of Uganda (GOU) and the OIC. In 1990, the Parliament of Uganda enacted a law, The Islamic University in Uganda Act (cap 131, Laws of Uganda), formally establishing the University in Uganda. The University operates under the framework of this Act. The University opened on 10th February 1988 with 80 students and two-degree programmes. Currently, we have over 120 accredited programs, 8 Faculties, and a student population of over 10,000 coming from 21 different countries. The University has so far graduated over 50,000 students from various disciplines
