IUIU Launches $1 Million Campaign to Empower Muslim Teachers

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of former IUIU staff member, Associate Professor Nachuha Sarah Kasozi, on February 16, 2025.
Associate Professor Nachuha Sarah Kasozi was a highly respected scholar in biological sciences. She began her education at Fairway Primary School, followed by Tororo Girls’ School. She pursued higher education at Makerere University and later earned her Ph.D. from Oxford University.
Her professional career began at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) in 1997 as a part-time lecturer in biological sciences. Over time, she expanded her expertise to include environmental studies, making significant contributions to research and academia. She later joined Kabale University, where she served as a Professor of Biological Sciences.
Professor Nachuha will be remembered as the first Muslim woman to attain the rank of Professor in Uganda. This achievement cemented her place in history and inspired countless young women to pursue higher education and scholarly excellence.
She was a devoted wife to Dr. Kato Mahz Kasozi, a faculty member at IUIU's Faculty of Management Studies. Together, they created a loving home and raised three children. Dr. Kasozi described his wife as a compassionate and selfless woman who prioritized her family and extended her care to many others in need.
Her colleagues at IUIU remember her as a hardworking and disciplined professional, always striving to meet deadlines and uphold the highest academic standards. A pillar of strength within her clan, family, and the wider community, she was known for her generosity and commitment to social responsibility. She supported numerous individuals in their educational and personal pursuits, embodying a spirit of selfless service.
Beyond academia, Associate Professor Nachuha Sarah Kasozi was a committed member of the Muslim community, actively involved in various initiatives aimed at uplifting society. Her contributions to education, research, and community development will be remembered for generations to come.
She will be laid to rest in Mbarara on Monday, February 17, 2025. Her passing is a profound loss to her family, the academic fraternity, and the nation.
May Allah grant her Jannah and give her family the strength to bear this great loss.
