The newly sworn-in Guild President of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Main Campus has vowed to champion policies to change students’ lives. Mr. Kakande Hafdwar, a second-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education, made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony as the 34th Guild President of the 2021/2022 Islamic University Students’ Union (IUSU) Government.

The new Guild President said he has a competent Cabinet ready to bring the change students have been yearning for.

“My team and I will push for policies for equitable scholarships, tuition policies, expansion of available games, and assisting international students to ensure they have a safe stay and convenient stay in the University,” Kakande explained.
Mr. Kakande also assured the students that he would work with the University administration to ensure that students get better health care services, improve sanitation in the hostel, and many more.
The new Guild shared his biggest dream of mobilizing funds to construct a building named in honor of Dr. Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, the former Rector.

The IUIU Rector, Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, who graced the ceremony, advised the new leadership to work hand in hand with the administration to serve the students fraternity diligently. Professor Gyagenda urged the new leaders to maintain the incredible legacy of IUIU during their time in office.

Seconding the Rector, the Vice-Rector, Finance, and Administration, Prof. Dr. Abdul Kaziba Mpaata said IUIU believes in dialogue; and he urged the new leaders always to engage the administration.

Besides that, the outgoing Guild President, Mr. Welunga Yusuf, currently the President of the Uganda National Students Association (UNSA), advised the new guild leaders not to fight the administration. Welunga urged the new leaders always to engage the administration to serve the students’ fraternity effectively.

For the first time in the history of IUIU, Guild leaders came in power unopposed because each post remained with one candidate after the vetting process conducted by Shura Committee.
Traditionally, the Shura Committee chaired by the Rector scrutinizes all students’ academic, religious, and moral competencies of aspirants. The elective positions are Guild President, Lady Vice Guild President, Guild Speaker, Deputy Guild Speaker, Sports Minister, Deputy Sports Minister, Dawa Minister, and Deputy Dawah Minister.Â
