On 25th May 2023, the Rector of Islamic University in Uganda, Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, held a discussion with the administration of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). OAU was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Administration, Professor Daramola Olusanjo Matthew Abayomi, and the Director of ACE, Professor Ganiyu Adesola Aderounmu. The two top administrators of OAU, are part of the 7-member delegation from the same University that is currently in Uganda to conduct the 5-Day Modular Intensive Workshop on Cyber Security hosted by IUIU – Kampala Campus. OAU is a premier well-established University in Nigeria with 13 faculties, 107 academic programs, and a population of over 35,000 students.

In his remarks, the Rector IUIU, thanked the OAU for availing IUIU with this training opportunity. “On behalf of the management of IUIU, I want to sincerely thank the ACE of OAU, for choosing IUIU as the first institution in East Africa to benefit from this capacity-building training organised by your Centre of Excellence, the ACE. This is recognition that we cannot take for granted, and I believe the broader partnership between our two institutions has just started”, said the Rector, Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda. On his part, the DVC of OAU assured the Rector that the OAU is very much happy to work with IUIU in the areas of human capacity building, among others. “I want to assure you Mr Rector, that the OAU is open to furthering our collaboration beyond this workshop. We are ready to host your staff and students who would wish to further their graduate studies at OAU, among other possible partnership programs”, said Professor Daramola.

IUIU and OAU will now work on the drafting of the MoU that will focus on several areas of possible collaboration. These include; graduate training, grants writing, and co-grant applications, among several others. The Rector tasked Dr Umar Yahya, who was also in attendance of this meeting, to pursue this assignment to the desired conclusion.
