The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) welcomed a delegation from the United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Thursday 23rd May 2024 at the main campus in Mbale.

The delegation led by the Managing Director of UBA Uganda, Ms. Chioma Mang was received by the Academic Registrar (AR) Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar in the office of the Rector.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar gave an overview of IUIU's history, emphasizing the university's commitment to enhancing education and promoting Islam in Uganda.

Mr. Balat Nantamu representing the Bursar IUIU expressed gratitude to the UBA team from Mbale, led by Mr. Jonathan, for their continued support to the university, while also noting a few challenges that need addressing.

Ms. Chioma Mang commended IUIU for its collaboration with UBA and expressed a keen interest in identifying further areas of partnership to strengthen the bank’s presence in Uganda. She highlighted the university’s significant role in supporting students and staff from various countries, including Nigeria, through the Technical Aid Corps program.

Ms. Mang congratulated the university for establishing a female-only campus, aimed at promoting education for the girl child. She assured the university of UBA’s support for the continued success of this campus.

She also outlined UBA's mission to touch lives across Africa by investing in various countries, highlighting that the bank operates in 19 countries with over 1000 branches across the continent. She emphasized UBA's commitment to supporting educational institutions through digital solutions, such as multi-purpose ID cards, and proposed creating more endowment funds for universities. Additionally, she suggested the development of infrastructure at IUIU, including laboratories and ICT facilities.

Ms. Mang proposed that IUIU students participate in UBA’s academy exams, which will foster educational and infrastructural development in Uganda.
