Dr. Abdulswamad Gyagenda is a dedicated academic and professional with a strong background in education and Islamic studies. Born on 4 April 1991, in Sheema, Uganda, he is a committed Muslim who is proficient in multiple languages, including English, Kiswahili, Luganda, Runyankore, and moderate Arabic. He holds a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction from Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where he also earned his Master’s degree in Islamic Studies and Bachelor’s degree in Education specializing in Islamic Studies and ICT. He is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the International Islamic University of Malaysia(IIUM). His academic journey reflects a lifelong passion for Islamic civilization and thought, Islamic education and pedagogical innovation.
Dr. Gyagenda has made significant contributions to academia through his research and publications. His research focuses on Islamic Studies, Islamic education, Islamic civilization, interfaith dialogue, innovation in curriculum and instruction, and the integration of modern technologies in pedagogy. His published works include studies on Islamic Thought, zakat compliance, the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy in Islamic education, curriculum, and the role of universities in fostering interfaith harmony. He has also presented papers both in Uganda and at international conferences, addressing topics like the integration of knowledge in traditional madrassas and strategies for revamping Uganda’s education system to align with global standards and trends.
Professionally, Dr. Gyagenda has been a lecturer at IUIU since 2017, teaching Islamic studies and working as an assistant examination coordinator in the Faculty of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language. He also lectures in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction Faculty of Education (IUIU). He is currently serving as the Deputy Director for Research Publication and Innovation (RPI) at, Islamic University in Uganda. He is experienced in supervising research, coordinating school internships, and conducting examinations. His prior roles include teaching at secondary schools, mentoring at orphanage centers, and serving as a radio presenter at 93.1 IUIU FM, discussing contemporary Muslim issues. Additionally, he actively participates in academic workshops and conferences, contributing to discussions on Islamic civilization and thought, sustainable development, curriculum studies, interfaith dialogue, research, and innovation.
Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Gyagenda is passionate about lifelong learning, voluntary community service, debating, and writing. His commitment to Islamic thought and civilization, education, and interreligious dialogue underscores his belief in fostering social cohesion and global understanding. As a journal manager and editor for the Journal of Islamic Studies and Arabic Language and as a resource person in academia, he continues to inspire students and colleagues alike with his dedication to knowledge, cultural exchange, and community development.
