Assoc. Prof. Matovu Highlights Successful PhD Dissertation Defense at IUIU

A delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (ISDB), led by Dr. Umar Ishaq Iddris, successfully concluded a two-day project supervisory visit to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the main campus in Mbale.
The visit was concluded with a site visit led by the Rector, Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the University Engineer, and other staff members aimed to assess and evaluate the progress of the ongoing construction of the Faculty of Engineering.
Assoc. Prof. Ismail commended the contractor and Symbion consultants for maintaining high-quality standards in the construction. He emphasized that the new faculty would be a transformative project equipping African youth with essential engineering skills, preparing them to contribute to the continent’s development.
He expressed his anticipation for the project's completion and praised ISDB for their funding support urging the contractor to maintain their efforts to ensure uninterrupted progress.
Dr. Ishaq praised the contractor for the progress made so far and encouraged them to continue delivering the high-quality work demonstrated in previous collaborations with ISDB. He emphasized that the Faculty of Engineering would be a lasting legacy, underscoring the importance of providing a quality output. Dr. Ishaq also assured his commitment to working closely with the Rector to address any challenges faced by the project.
Ms. Amanda Tracy, Assistant Project Manager of Symbion Consulting Group, provided an update on the project's progress, reporting that the engineering block is 65% complete, while the male hostel stands at 70%. She acknowledged delays due to an increase in the scope of work but expressed optimism that the contractor would proceed diligently and complete the project by December.
