Islamic University in Uganda IUIU soccer club managed to scoop three points leading to a narrow victory in their opening game in group B of the 2023 Pepsi University League held on Monday 25th September 2023 at IUIU main campus, Mbale.

IUIU head coach Keba Haruna says the win was a lucky one given the experienced side in Victoria.
“My boys have played good football altogether because we are in the group of death yet most of my players are just in year one and still experienced, it was a good performance from then I can see especially playing a better team like Victoria”.

Both sides failed to convert awarded penalties, and IUIU’s striker Isma Tamubula was the first culprit losing a penalty in the first half. Victoria University too had a moment from the spot after the referee awarded a penalty due to a foul by IUIU inside the box.

IUIU put a lot of pressure on the visitors through counterattacks but not until the final added 6 minutes where defender Kasule scored a rebound unmarked off goalkeeper of Victoria University.

Victoria University head coach Emmanual Bonaparte has blamed the loss of the game on poor defending and loss of concentration from his team.

IUIU are on the same three points with MUBs in the group B and are taking on MUBS away in Nakawa in two weeks in their next game.

IUIU Starting Xi: Musasizi Shadat, Tumwesigye Robert, Kakaire Hamis, Pere Sudaisi, Kasule Mosses, Walwasa Leo, Kawooya Shafic, Onongo Denis, Ludhu Sheili, Walwasa Nathan, Isma Tamubule.
