‘’Explore other activities outside books’’ Assoc Proff Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda

The Rector of Islamic university in Uganda Assoc Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda has urged new students to explore other co-curricular activities outside books and class work. This was during the official Admissions Ceremony of the new students of the 2023/2024 academic year on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the main campus in Mbale. 

The event was graced by the Rector, Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, Vice Rector in charge of Finance and Administration, Prof. Abdul Kaziba Mpaata, Vice Rector in charge of Academics, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Academic Registrar Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, and faculty Deans, marked the official induction of 2075 new students into the institution.

Dr. Halima Wakabi Akbar, the Academic Registrar, thanked Allah for enabling the university to host the event where 2075 new students were admitted into the institution.

"We are here to work for your aspirations in IUIU during the time you will stay with us." 

Dr. Halima emphasized the importance of hard work and introduced prestigious awards awaiting the best students, such as the Prince Badru Kakungulu Award, the Alumni Award, the International Islamic Charitable Award, and the Rector's Award, encouraging students to strive for excellence.

"I want to challenge you, our dear students; these awards are meant for you," she asserted, 

The Academic Registrar noted that virtues like morals, community contribution, and leadership skills are also important contributions to the attainment of the awards.

Dr. Jamil Serwanga, Vice Rector of Academics, noted that the occasion symbolized the university's commitment to nurturing students, imparting relevant skills, and fostering the appropriate attitude. He highlighted the potential of students to develop skills and attitudes essential for their future endeavors.

Assoc Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the Rector, congratulated the incoming students for their admission to IUIU. He commended their choice to study at IUIU and assured them that the institution would play its part in supporting their dreams. Prof. Ismail urged patience, hard work, and understanding towards lecturers, emphasizing the transformative journey awaiting them.

"This is a chance for you to grow and discover your personality. I encourage you to involve yourself in co-curricular activities to acquire soft skills like time management, teamwork, leadership, communication, and social interaction," he added.

The Rector also highlighted the importance of observing the core values of IUIU: faith, integrity, excellence, diversity, and creativity. He urged students to read more, focus on creating solutions, and embrace the notion of learning how to learn and unlearn in a rapidly evolving world the beginning of a transformative academic journey for the new students at the Islamic University in Uganda.
