The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with UTAMSI Coffee Processing Company On February 9th, 2024, at the Main Campus in Mbale.

The signing ceremony took place in the office of the Rector and was attended by key figures from both institutions. Representing IUIU were the Rector, Assoc Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, accompanied by the Vice-Rector in charge of Academics, Dr Jamil Serwanga, Deans of the Faculty of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (FANRES) and the Faculty of Science.

The MOU aims to enhance collaboration between the two entities by establishing basic processing facilities for coffee and organic agricultural products, along with the inauguration of a coffee shop within the IUIU premises. This initiative not only provides valuable practical training opportunities for students but also generates revenue for the institution, contributing to its sustainability and growth.

The MOU will also focus on capacity-building activities, including training sessions, short courses, and work attachments, all focused on enhancing students' skills in coffee processing and related areas. Leveraging the expertise of UTAMSI Coffee Processing Company, IUIU students will gain valuable practical experience, augmenting their professional growth and employability prospects.

An important component of the MOU is the provision for academic internships at UTAMSI Coffee Processing Company Allowing students to gain firsthand exposure to the intricacies of coffee processing, enriching their theoretical knowledge base while deepening their understanding of industry practices.
IUIU and UTAMTI Coffee Processing Company aim to drive innovation and excellence in the coffee industry and organic agricultural products.
