HUAWEI ESTABLISHES AN ICT ACADEMY AT IUIU

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and Huawei Technologies Uganda Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to setup a Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) at IUIU. The IUIU-HAINA (IUIU-ICT Academy) is certified and authorized by Huawei to teach official technical and certification training to its students using the Huawei authorized training curriculum and tools.


 

According to the Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail S. Gyagenda, the Huawei based IUIU-ICT Academy will equip students with an understanding of cutting-edge technologies. “Through this partnership we will ensure that ICT courses keep up with new trends, and use guaranteed teaching materials that are related to industry practices”. The Rector expressed.

 

In addition, the Rector explained that the IUIU-Huawei MoU is intended to further accelerate IUIU’s digitalization efforts, which in the long run will help IUIU students to become more employable.


“Although we had already stepped up our digitalization efforts, the IUIU-Huawei partnership will give us an opportunity to use new digital technologies to change our business model to increase value-producing opportunities and provide new revenue opportunities”. The Rector bragged.


The ICT Manager and the HoD Computer Science also revealed that the IUIU students are now eligible to participate in the 2021 Huawei ICT Competitions, and that they have a higher chance of winning especially given their innovation level.

 

The MoU signing ceremony took place on the 27th August 2021 at Serena Hotel in Kampala. Mr. Gao Fei Gavin, the Managing Director Huawei Technologies Uganda Ltd presented an ICT Academy Certificate to the IUIU team which was led by the Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, accompanied by the ICT manager, Mr. Chemisto Musa and Mr. Kalinaki Kasim, the Head of Computer Science department. 

 

The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and the State Minister for Higher Education Hon. Dr. John C. Muyingo.
