Introduction
Clinical trials are research studies performed on people that are aimed at evaluating a medical, surgical, or behavioural intervention. Often a clinical trial is used to learn if a new treatment is more effective and/or has fewer harmful side effects than the standard treatment. This is an essential step in the 15 to 20 years journey of a drug/biologic or a vaccine from preclinical studies to active clinical patient use.

COMSTECH aims to offer Clinical Trials training for clinical and applied health professionals working in the areas of healthcare, pharmacy, nursing and allied health specialities.

COMSTECH has selected the Islamic University in Uganda to host the introductory training program for clinical healthcare professionals and scientists from the 20th to the 21st of March 2023. The participants shall be tooled with the key concepts for performing clinical trials. The training will last for 2 days excluding the arrival and departure days. The  Topics to be covered include:

  • The importance of ethical practices
  • The concepts of internal & external validity
  • Application of descriptive & inferential statistics
  • Application of analytical skills for critical appraisal
  • Steps of proposal writing and budgeting.

Expected outcomes

  • Young scientists will be trained on recently developed techniques in clinical trials.
  • Researchers from Pakistan, Uganda and other member OIC states will interact with each other in the training.  Multinational interactions will lead to the development of international collaborations, research possibilities and publications.
