IUIU Students Elect New Electoral Commission chairperson

Students at an Islamic university in Uganda's main campus Mbale elected a new electoral commission chairperson on Friday 24th march 2023.

The election was carried out online through the ERP system where all students can log in and participate in the election process through their phones or any device connected to the internet.

The highly heated event had two contestants Watenga Silagi Wamini and Kalule Musitafa.

Watenga Siragi managed to gunner 528 votes representing 52% of the votes cast while Kalule Musitafah got 486 votes, equalling 48% of the votes cast in the election.

Watenga Siragi who emerged winner will be in charge of chairing the upcoming guild elections 2023-2024 for the positions of guild president, vice lady, the sports minister, and other elective positions.

Siragi thanked the students for their support and pledged to work together with Kalule to organize a free and fair election.

In his speech during the event, Mr Mukwana Siragi the university coordinator and Dean of students commended the students for turning up in large numbers to participate in the elections and encouraged them to do the same for the guild elections so they can go back to focus on their academics.
